Happy Halloween

Have a great day and I hope you all enjoy the traditional trick or treating outing tonight !! My children are really looking forward to it, even though it's going to be a cold night...

Here are a few pics of our Halloween decorations this year:

I have re-used the Spooky Garland and Candelabra cutouts from last year. You can read the original post here.
The two sweet jars are from Asda ! They had them for Halloween and I just changed the labels.
The apothecary jar labels and the Spellbook label are free printables from Second Sister.
The "Something Wicked" sign is a freebie from Frog Prince Paperie
And the Boo sign was drawn at the back of the Ice Cream parlour shop sign !!!

{Cookies} Jack O' Lantern Halloween Cookies

How about some fun Cookies for Halloween ? Those Jack O' Lantern little biscuits are sure to bring a smile to anybody's face and there are pretty easy to make !

What you will need:

- Chocolate sugar cookie dough (use a recipe that does not spread while baking)
- Buttercream
- orange food coloring (I use paste/gel colors)
- Pumpkin cookie cutters

Here is how !
1 - Roll the cookie dough and cut some pumpkin shapes. Place them on a tray and freeze for 10-15 minutes.
2 - Take out a couple of pumpkin shapes from the freezer and use a sharp knife to "carve" the face features
3 - Push the cutouts through with the end of the knife. Because the dough is very cold, you will be able to hold the shape in you hands.
4 - Keep going until HALF of your pumpkins have been carved.
5 - Bake all the shapes. You should have the same number of "faces" (carved) and backs (plain)
6 - Let the cookies cool completely

7 - Color the buttercream orange and spread a thick layer on each back
8 - if you wish to make lollies, insert a stick in the frosting
9 - Cover with a face and press gently until the frosting comes through the eyes and mouth
10 - If making lollies you have to wait until the buttercream has dried, it takes about a day.

As seen in Bird's Party Magazine, Fall 2012 issue !!!

Kelly's of Cornwall Perfect Pud Challenge and GIVEAWAY !

Autumn is definitely here but who says we have to stop eating ice cream ??? I certainly enjoy it all year round, couldn’t leave without it ! ;-)
So I think this competition to find the best autumn pud to enjoy with Kelly’s of Cornwall ice cream is a lot of fun !!!

Here are the details of the nationwide competition:
(Scroll all the way down for the giveaway)

Cornwall’s leading ice cream producer, Kelly’s, is launching a nationwide search to find the ultimate home-made pudding recipe to serve with Kelly’s ice cream.

Kelly’s of Cornwall knows only too well how many fantastic puddings us Brits have created over the years and with autumn around the corner, what better excuse to enjoy cosy nights in than getting creative in the kitchen for the Kelly’s ‘perfect pudding’ competition.

Do you make the most sumptuous sticky toffee pudding? Have you got the best bread and butter pudding recipe in the county? Then this is your chance to don an apron, bring out the rolling pin and bake for the opportunity to represent Kelly’s of Cornwall online pudding campaign.

The lucky winner will be honoured on the Kelly’s of Cornwall website with their recipe professionally made and photographed. What’s more, the lucky winner will also be treated to a year’s supply of Kelly’s of Cornwall ice cream.  For ten runner’s up, there is a month’s supply of Kelly’s of Cornwall ice cream up for grabs.

There are seven flavours of Kelly’s of Cornwall’s velvety ice cream to get creative with, so why not organise an evening in with great company, fun entertainment and a rather generous helping of your homemade creations for all to share and feedback.

It’s easy to enter, just submit a photo of your chosen pudding with a detailed description of the recipe, including the flavour of Kelly’s of Cornwall ice cream it matches perfectly with.  Enter online via the entry form (www.kellysofcornwall.co.uk).  You must upload a picture of the finished pudding and a reason to why your pudding is oh-so-perfect with Kelly’s ice cream.  The deadline for entries is 2nd November 2012.

Members of Kelly’s judging committee will then judge all entries and one winner and ten runners up will be selected, and announced on 9th November 2012 – National Pudding Day.

In the meantime, Kelly’s of Corwall is offering one lucky reader of That Cute Little Cake 5 tubs of Ice Cream ! Don’t miss out on the chance to try some of their yummy flavours !

{Ice Cream Party} Sewn Shut Treat Bags

It's taken me long enough (!) but here is finally the pictorial to create my little sewn-shut treat bags I used at the ice cream party.

You will need:
Clear plastic Treat bags
Strips of scrapbook paper
Paper doilies

The pictures are probably self-explanatory, but I thought I would just mention that I used strip of glue to hold the paper and doily in place. It made it so much easier that everything was held in place during the sewing.

{Craft} DIY wire netting Frame

I have seen lots of these on pinterest and I just had to have one for the Ice Cream Party. I figured it would be a prefect way to display our games prizes.

You will need:
A frame
Some wire netting (Mine came in a roll - from a garden centre or a DIY shop)
A staple gun
Clippers

I strongly advise on wearing DIY gloves and long sleeves if you want to avoid getting scratches...

How to:
First thing is to use the clippers to cut a piece of wire netting slighly bigger than the frame (maybe a couple of inches bigger in each direction).

Then "work" the netting to try and flatten it. You may roll it, strech it, jump on it if you want (or maybe not) ! You simply want the the netting to lay as flat as possible.

If your frame is small, you can simply hot glue the wire netting at the back of the frame like I did for this Earring Holder.

However as my frame was quite big (60 x 80 cm) I decided on using a staple glun so I could strech the netting better while working.
I stapled one side then stapled the opposite side, streching it as much as I could.
I then stapled the two remaining sides, still streching as I went.

I don't think you can ever get a completely flat netting if it came from a roll but by doing it this way the end result looked good to me.

Clip the extra netting to size.

While looking on the web for instructions on similar projects, I read a few people complained about the netting marking their wall (metal wire on paint=grey marks). If your project is intended for indoor use, simply cover the wire netting "edges" with ribbon like I did here (I hot glued the ribbon):

My project was hung on our shed so I skipped this last step.

Come back later this week for the DIY to make those sweet little treat bags !

{Pin of the Week} Wee mouse tin house

I know this is a very late “pin of the week” but a nasty seasonal virus got the best of us all last week and we’ve been poorly all week end !!! Not a nice way to start the new season…

Anyway, feeling better now so here is my favourite pin this week. I am feeling crafty after all the recent Birthday baking and I completely fell for those Wee mice in tin house (i.e. Altoid box) !!!
Aren't they just adorable ???

You can buy the pattern from Mmmcraft on Etsy here.

Chloe's Ice Cream Birthday Party

Finally all the pictures from the Ice Cream Birthday Party !!!

I created this cute little ice cream parlour for the children to come and "buy" their ice cream from during the party.
We had sprinkles and sauces to choose from and a variety of waffle cones and cups.

Homemade ice cream cake pops
These were the prizes for the games. Little ice cream candies.

Every little girl had a fabric flower brooch on her lunch box.
It was very cute having them all wearing them during the party.
